Meet the Teachers

  • Iyengar Yoga
I teach yoga in the rigorous, adaptive, somatically precise method of the Iyengar lineage through an anti oppression framework that uplifts inner healing towards collective liberation.

As a person with then undiagnosed ADHD, yoga and meditation also became crucial for navigating my neurodiverse brain. As a person with a lot of mobility, I dove into Ashtanga style classes but kept getting hurt. Once I found Iyengar’s approach to asana and began to learn yoga philosophy, it changed everything. From early on, my background in yoga has been focused on functional anatomy, stability, and alignment.

Hungry for depth, and finding this subject of Yoga endlessly fascinating and relevant, I embraced on decades of committed study, which I continue to engage in – I will always be first and foremost, a student.

  • Breathwork, Meditation & Writing

Luke Simon is a queer healer, writer and space maker.

He started yoga to address depression and anxiety and it led him to down the healing path. He helped start Maha Rose Center for Healing in Brooklyn where he learned and taught Breathwork and Reiki. He uses spiritual practices to balance energetic sensitivity into fine tuned intuition, tap into creativity and surrender to the mystery. He shares writing, and classes to support other sensitive beings’ path.

In 2020 he moved to the Hudson Valley to learn gardening and ecology. He seeks to create moments of being where people can feel authenticity, shamelessness, care, belonging and joy. Find him sparkling on the internet, picking strawberries, guiding meditations, retreats, and in the pages of his books.

Mazunte, Mexico

Located on the coast of Oaxaca, Mazunte is one of Mexico’s “Pueblos Magicos”.
The magical towns are honored for cultural richness, historical relevance, cuisine, art crafts, and great hospitality

Mazunte has been a hippie haven for decades. There is a sea turtle refuge and walking trails along the cliffs with stunning sunset views.

This beach town isn’t a resort. This is ideal for people who want to experience Mexican culture and like the rugged beauty of untouched nature. Expect scaling rocks, afternoon heat and tropical bugs and animals. We find this living nature to be full of prana ‘life force’, giving you a direct reminder of your own inner spark.

We will be staying at the stylish
El Triangulo retreat center.

Created by our friends at Maha Rose Brooklyn.
El Triangulo is in the cliffs overlooking the ocean,
a 10 minute walk to town and the gentle swimming beach.

The food and lodging balance luxury with the rustic beauty of Oaxacan culture.
We have the compound to ourselves, the architecture is earthy and modern.
You could stay put all week and enjoy the pool and tranquility, or walk down to town for some excitement.

Homemade meals will be tailored to your needs,
We look forward to the tropical fruit and fresh fish.

We’re donating 10% from this retreat to support immigration justice.

During this challenging time, we need to
bolster ourselves with deep spiritual practice and community connection.

This is a pro-active step in meeting the fears head on, and learning tools to balance our nervous systems. This time of practice will help you restore your energy and develop embodied intelligence. We are excited to share the tools that help us to stay aligned physically and spiritually. Let’s shine our light even harder and bring the energy we want to see in the world. This is our gathering to recharge and share insight on how to navigate the challenges we are facing, together.

By the end of the retreat, your body will feel strengthened, lengthened and reset.
You will be recharged and feel better equipped with practices and teachings you learn from the small group with personalized attention.
You will also make some new friends and be warmed up by the sunshine of the Oaxacan coast.

Feel free to contact me with any questions. I am happy to chat on the phone if you want to run by any questions, concerns, or figure out if this retreat is the right fit for you. I’m excited to co-create this healing retreat with Avery and you!

Frequently asked questions

What are your Covid protocols?

The risk/benefit equation will look different for different folks, and the decision to gather requires consideration. We feel protective of our communities and hope the following helps you feel into this opportunity is a good fit for you.

  • 24hrs pre travel Covid test is required and sent to organizers (swab test OK)

    1. Immunizations encouraged but not required.

    2. We encourage folks to avoid large crowds prior to the retreat.

    3. Masks are optional on retreat

What airport do I fly into?

El Triangulo is equidistant from airports in Puerto Escondido (PXM) and Huatulco (HUX).  The journey from either airport by taxi is about an hour. We can negotiate a taxi pickup for you, let us know if you want that, or find a taxi outside the airport yourself.

Both Puerto Escondido and Huatulco have frequent flights to and from Mexico City.  Puerto Escondido has some very inexpensive, direct flights from Tijuana on Volaris, which can be a good option if you’re in Southern California.  You can park or be dropped off on the US side and walk across the Cross Boarder Xpress to the airport.  It’s very easy to do.

Otherwise, you’ll get yourself to Mexico City, then book a short flight down to the coast.  Guadalajara, Dallas, and Chicago also have flights to Huatulco.

Puerto Escondido does not have any international flights. Most options will show up on Kayak, Expedia, etc..  Common airlines to the coast are Volaris, Viva Aerobus, and Aero Mexico.

Driving from Mexico City takes about 9 hours; 6 hours to Oaxaca City, then another 3 hours to the coast via a new super highway.

There is also the option to take the scenic route from oaxaca, over a very windy, but beautiful mountain road. If you have the time, I highly recommend a stay up there someday. Terraza de la tierra is amazing.

Do I need a passport?

Yes!

I have accessibility needs. Can I come?

We encourage you to reach out if you have specific accessibility needs or questions. Classes will be adaptive, and trauma informed; everything we offer is optional. But they will include physical movements such as getting up and down from the floor. Classes will be taught in English. El Triangulo requires walking up stairs, steep paths, and walking on uneven ground. If you have questions to see if this is a good fit for you, let’s chat. Email us using the form below.

What’s your refund policy?

There are no refunds, transfers or discounts for cancellations, illness, arriving late, leaving early, or travel snafus. If you cancel your participation in the retreat for any reason, this cancellation policy applies. As soon as a deposit is made, these funds are used to cover our event costs. In the unlikely event that we must cancel due to natural disaster, illness, etc, we cannot guarantee a refund – however, we will reschedule the retreat!
